This filter has 20 folds (vanes) compared to the original Trane filter that has 11 vanes. Each vane is 5 inches wide. This means you get 100 inches of surface area length (5X20) compared to Trane's which gives you 55 inches. That's 2100 square inches compared to 1155 sq. in. The quality is great and the pair costs $25 less than a pair of OEM filters. My HVAC service man said you can't find a better price. He sells ONE OEM filter for $70. I will buy this one forever.

Searched the net and finally came upon this website. Very good info and makes it easy to determine the best product value for my needs. The generic filters are good enough for my AC/ Heat unit but at almost half the cost. The construction is not as robust as the factory brand, [...], but each filter was a bit crushed. That initially concerned me, but they fit in the unit OK. May have been a problem, but I was able to un-bend each one. I will buy them again. [...]

I am very pleased and will purchase again. One thing to note....the direction arrows point up on one side and down on another. Make sure that you observe how the old one is installed and put this one exactly like it.

This substitute appears to be the same as the item replaced EXCEPT the air flow direction indicated is BACKWARD, This could cause material to flow to the evaporator in the air handler if installed that way.

This is the main air intake filter for my Trane heating and cooling unit. In the past, I've been relegated to buying from a Trane dealer. It never dawned on me that I could possibly do better by shopping the internet. I bought and had delivered to my house TWO filters for less than I've been paying for one that I had to go and get myself. As far as performance and construction, it is indistinguishable from what Trane supplies as a replacement. I can't tell you how pleased I am with the whole experience, and will DEFINATELY return.
