This is an acceptable filter in as much as it fits correctly and seems to have a good filter element. The big difference between this filter (besides cost) and the trane original part filter is that it lacks the foam pieces on the outside of the filter that make it seal perfectly in the filter housing. Unfiltered air albeit a very small amount gets by the filter. I think next time I'll spend the extra money and get the original filter.

Watch out for how the "This Side Down" sticker faces; it may not be correct. The stickers on ours were backwards, so I was trying to install the filter upside down. I only realized the mistake on these filters after having a bit of trouble sliding them in and after reading the sticker on the original Trane/American standard filter, which says "Wire Side towards furnace." After flipping them, they installed perfectly and the wire side was toward the furnace, just as the original filters are made to do.
