Was skeptical of going without GE's own filter but this was Brita and that's what they do. The water tasted a bit off for the first few days but after that we haven't had any issues. I was mostly afraid of leaking but not a drop of water came out of the filter in the fridge. It's only three weeks since it was installed so we don't know about longevity yet. The original GE filter lasted nine months so if the new Brita filter lasts that long it will be a very good deal considering it was over a 10 dollar savings per filter. [...]

Filtered great, but we couldn't figure out how to make it work until we figured out on our own to remove the o-ring. The directions did not tell us that we might have to remove the o-ring.

I have no bad remarks for this product. Everything is great about this product from being very affordable for the average home owner to easy installation. It even offers a precise fit when when replacing a different brand of filter.

I have used Brita filter in the past. Compared to GE filter, Brita filtered water does taste better. However, this filter's label was glued on backwards. I installed using the arrows, but no water came out. I turned the filter 180 degrees, and voila! clean, great tasting water. Best way to tell when filter needs changing is the reduction in the water flow. When the flow slows, change the filter. (Lasts about 6 months, each)

Outer casing is slightly smaller than the GE original equipment filter and you can hear the water flow through the cartridge, i.e. somewhat noisier than the GE. Water flow rate is higher than the GE, otherwise the function is identical.

filter-outlet.com Response: Typically noise related to the water filter is caused by water bubbles trapped inside the filter. Filling the filter with water before installation will usually purge the air from the filter and reduce or eliminate this noise.

The product definitely improved the taste however after taking a closer look at the fine print I noticed that it didn't filter out contaminants. The original GE filter filtered out lead, cysts, and other materials, the Brita strictly improves taste. If that's what your after then this is your product. I was a little disapointed that this was marketed as a 'replacement' to mine, to me that implies same or similar functionality.

Filters are cheaper then the GE brand, but I followed the instructions to a T and the flow is dismally slow. The water stream is about 1/16 of an inch. Would be a career job jto fill a large containner.

This three-pack of filters was priced right, considering my web-search for a filter that seemed like it should cost under $10 -- but the manufacturer, and those like Brita that clone the manufacturer's filter as an "after-market" filter, seem to all play the price game fairly close. Thus, all of these compatable filter cartridges are highway-robbery priced.

Filter fit good -- now let's see if it will last 11 months like the orginal Kenmore (GE maybe..??) filter did that came in our new side-by-side. For 11 months, the Kenmore filter's water tasted good (took out the chlorine and metalic taste that we get with our county-supplied water). At exactly 11 months, the "change filter" red light came-on on the fridge. For your reference, we are a household of two (husband/wife) and I drink a lot of water daily.
