This filter is a replacement for the obsolete DA29-00003B. What will the Aqua-Pure Plus Filter do for me? Provide cleaner, fresher water and ice by removing the following: Chlorine Taste and Odor Particulate Mercury Lead Cyst Carbofuran p-Dichlorobenzene Asbestos Benzene Turbidity *Tested and certified by NSF International against NSF/ANSI Standards 42 and 53 in Model DA61-00159A-B for the reduction of claims specified on the Performance Data Sheet. When do I change my filter? On models with a filter indicator light: The filter should be replaced when the filter indicator light turns red, every 6 months, or if you notice a decrease in the flow of water. When the filter is replaced, reset the indicator by pressing the Ice Type button and the Child Lock (or Moisture Control) button simultaneously for 3 seconds. On models without a filter indicator light: The filter should be replaced every 6 months, or if you notice a decrease in the flow of water. The refrigerator seems to call for a filter replacement every 3-6 months regardless of filter state. Since these filters are so expensive, I would recommend you replace the filter based on your own subjective measurements of A) rate of water flow - is a strong or a trickle? and B) does the water still taste the same. These two criteria give you a good idea of how much sediment is in the filter and hence its service life.

I tried the generics and paid the price (which is to say they leaked about a gallon into my fridge); I exchanged them for the Samsung ones and am happy I did. You can try the generics if you want to risk it, but you are better of going with the goods ones to start with.

Water here in the Phoenix area is very bad out of the tap. These filters make the water clean enough to drink to the point that we no longer buy bottled water for our household. The cost of the filters vs. the cost of bottled water definitely makes the filters an excellent buy. Only bad part is running so much water through when first installing the filter. The time instructed seems like overkill.

While I think these replacement filters are too expensive, this seller had the best price I could find on the net. And since, these filters seem to work very well and last long (six months), I don't have too many complaints. The water in Washington, D.C. area typically tastes terrible, and worse, has been found to contain harmful chemicals, pharmaceuticals and sex hormones! Supposedly, the water is still safe for consumption, but being pregnant I don't take any chances. Fortunately, the report said carbon filters removed or significantly reduced these items. Our water definitely tastes better. We'll definitely continue to buy, even though they're expensive.
